Cable tray conversion using angle

Cable tray angles can be adjusted using elbow joints, adjustable corner pieces, or by specifying angles in electrical design software.

Mechanical Adjustment

Elbow Joints: Standard elbow joints (RVS type) can be inserted into the cable tray and secured with screws. These allow you to change the horizontal orientation of the tray within a range of -90° to +90°. Adjustable Corner Pieces: Some corner pieces (SRS type) are designed to provide a flexible angle adjustment, typically ranging from 0° to 75°.

These are also installed inside the tray and fixed with screws. Bend Fittings: Predefined bend fittings are available for common angles such as 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90°, which can be selected and installed to achieve the desired routing. These fittings can be used for both horizontal and vertical changes in the cable tray path, allowing smooth transitions around obstacles or changes in elevation.

Software-

Based Adjustment (Revit Example)Open the Electrical Settings dialog in Revit. Navigate to the Angles pane to specify the fitting angle for cable trays or conduits. You can choose from three options: Use any angle: Revit will use any angle supported by the fitting content.

Set an angle increment: Defines the step size for angle selection. Use specific angles: Allows you to select predefined angles for the layout. These settings can be applied when adding new trays or modifying existing ones, and can be transferred to other projects using the Transfer Project Standards feature.

Practical Tips

Always ensure that the selected angle does not exceed the mechanical limits of the tray or fitting. For vertical bends, verify that the support brackets or suspension elements can accommodate the new orientation. When using adjustable fittings, tighten screws securely to prevent movement under load.

Plan the routing to minimize sharp bends, which can stress cables and reduce lifespan. By combining mechanical fittings and software angle settings, you can achieve precise and safe cable tray routing for both horizontal and vertical changes.
