Photoelectric composite long-distance optical cable

A photoelectric composite cable integrates optical fibers for high-speed data transmission and electrical conductors for power delivery, enabling long-distance, simultaneous data and power transmission in a single cable.

Structure and Components

A typical photoelectric composite cable combines optical fibers and electrical conductors within a single sheath. The optical fibers can be single-mode for long-distance, high-bandwidth applications like telecom and 5G, or multi-mode for shorter distances such as LANs and CCTV systems, providing immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and low signal loss over long distances. The electrical conductors, usually copper or aluminum, deliver power ranging from 12V to 48V DC or higher for industrial use.

The cable also includes strength members like aramid yarn or steel wire for tensile strength and an outer jacket that is UV-resistant, waterproof, or armored for harsh environments.

Advantages for Long-

Distance Transmission

Photoelectric composite cables are ideal for long-distance applications because they reduce the need for separate power and data lines, simplify installation, and minimize failure points. The optical fibers maintain high-speed data transmission even in high-voltage or EMI-prone environments, while the copper conductors provide reliable power delivery to remote devices such as IoT sensors, mobile base stations, or surveillance cameras. Armored versions are rodent-resistant, waterproof, and durable against bending, making them suitable for outdoor aerial, underground, or industrial installations.

Applications

These cables are widely used in: Telecommunications: Fiber-to-the-antenna (FTTA) and fiber-to-the-room (FTTR) setups for 5G and broadband networks.

Surveillance and Io

T: Powering and connecting cameras, sensors, and access terminals over distances up to 1 km. Industrial and Transportation: High-voltage substations, railways, and traffic control systems where EMI immunity is critical. Harsh Outdoor Environments: Waterproof and armored cables for outdoor 4G/5G surveillance and monitoring projects.

Types and Variants

Photoelectric composite cables come in several forms: Hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC): Combines fiber optics with coaxial or twisted pair elements for analog and digital signal transmission. Hybrid loose tube or ribbon cables: Offer flexibility and efficient installation while integrating fiber and copper elements. Waterproof armored cables: Designed for extreme outdoor conditions with dual steel wire reinforcement.

Considerations

While composite cables are highly versatile, pure optical cables may still be preferred for ultra-long-distance data transmission without power requirements, such as submarine or intercity backbone networks. Choosing the right cable depends on the balance between simultaneous power and data needs, installation simplicity, and environmental durability. In summary, photoelectric composite long-distance optical cables provide a cost-effective, reliable solution for transmitting both data and power over long distances, particularly in modern communication, surveillance, and industrial applications.
