Standard Configuration of Factory Level 2 Distribution Box

A factory Level 2 distribution box typically includes a metal enclosure with IP-55 protection, MCCBs, bus bars, grounding points, cable glands, and provisions for safe and organized power distribution.

Enclosure and Construction

The distribution box is usually fabricated from 2 mm galvanized steel sheets for durability and outdoor suitability, with reinforced channels for structural stability. The roof is slightly slanted with a 50 mm overhang to prevent water ingress. Door hinges are concealed, and a Godrej 3-position locking system is used for security.

The box must meet IP-55 protection standards to ensure dust and water resistance, and solid earthing points are provided on both sides of the enclosure. Internal ComponentsMCCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers): Typically, one bus bar arrangement with a 4-pole MCCB for main incoming supply and 2- or 3-pole MCCBs for outgoing feeders.

MCC

Bs conform to IS 13947 standards with magnetic trip release and manual reset. Bus Bars: Made of copper flat bars (25x4 mm), color-coded or insulated with red, yellow, blue, and black for phases. Bus bars are arranged to maintain adequate clearance from the enclosure to prevent short circuits.

Neutral and Grounding: A neutral link provides a return path, and a grounding bus bar ensures safety by directing fault currents to the earth. Cable Glands: Heavy-duty, double compression brass glands are provided for incoming and outgoing cables, with detachable plates for secure installation. Insulation Barriers: Metallic or heat-resistant insulating barriers separate MCCBs to prevent heat transfer during faults.

Additional Features

Indication Lights: Show mains power availability and status. Surge Protection Devices: Protect against voltage spikes and lightning strikes. Provision for Lighting: Internal lighting can be included for maintenance.

Nameplates and Identification: Non-detachable nameplates and punch marks for identification of ownership and serial numbers.

Installation Considerations

Install in dry, accessible areas with proper ventilation. Maintain safe height (~1. 5 m) for accessibility.

Ensure proper grounding, cable management, and insulation.

Follow IE

C, NEC, or local electrical codes for compliance. Perform visual inspections and multimeter tests before energizing. This configuration ensures safe, organized, and reliable distribution of low-voltage power in industrial or factory settings, while allowing for future upgrades and maintenance.
