Icons for Lighting Distribution Boxes

Lighting distribution box icons are standardized electrical symbols used in CAD and schematic drawings to represent distribution boards and lighting circuits.

Overview of Lighting Distribution Box Symbols

Lighting distribution boxes, also known as distribution boards or panels, are represented in electrical drawings using standardized symbols. These symbols allow engineers, designers, and electricians to quickly identify the type and function of the distribution box in a schematic or layout. They are commonly included in CAD libraries for AutoCAD, Revit, and Visio, and follow international standards such as BS EN 60617 for UK symbols.

Common Icon TypesSingle-Line Distribution BoxRepresents a basic lighting distribution panel. Typically shown as a rectangle with internal lines indicating circuits or breakers. May include labels for main switch, circuit breakers, and protective devices.

Multi-

Circuit Distribution Box

Used for panels with multiple lighting circuits. Symbols often include multiple vertical or horizontal lines inside a rectangle to indicate separate circuits. Can include amperage ratings or circuit identifiers for clarity.

Consumer Unit / Fuse BoxRepresents domestic or commercial consumer units. Includes symbols for RCDs, MCBs, and fuses. Often annotated with circuit numbers and protective device types.

Emergency Lighting Distribution Box

Specialized symbol for circuits supplying emergency lighting. May include a distinct color or layer in CAD drawings for differentiation.

Tips for Using Symbols

Always include a legend table in your drawings to identify each symbol clearly. Use standard layers (e.g., ELEC-LIGHT, ELEC-POWER) to separate lighting circuits from power circuits. Confirm amperage, IP ratings, and compliance with local electrical codes when labeling distribution boxes.

By using these standardized icons, designers can create clear, professional, and universally understood electrical layouts for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
