FTTH Data Center Hot Aisle Dimensions

Recommended hot aisle width is 0. 9–1. 2 meters, with maximum aisle lengths of 16 meters for continuous rows, and shorter lengths of 6 meters if one end is closed.

Hot Aisle Width

For FTT

H data centers, the minimum hot aisle width is typically 0. 9 meters, while the recommended width is 1. 2 meters to allow adequate airflow and personnel access.

If the data center has a raised floor, this width ensures that two full floor tiles can fit between cabinet fronts, optimizing cooling efficiency. For ceiling heights exceeding 3. 7 meters, additional aisle width may be required to accommodate lifts for overhead systems such as lighting, fire detection, and suppression equipment.

Hot Aisle Length

Continuous rows of cabinets: Maximum aisle length should not exceed 16 meters to maintain safe access and effective airflow. Restricted aisles (one end closed or lacking personnel exit): Maximum length should be limited to 6 meters for safety and evacuation purposes.

Containment Considerations

Hot aisle containment (HAC) systems can further improve cooling efficiency by capturing hot exhaust air and directing it to the overhead return plenum.

Ceiling-suspended HA

C systems are flexible and can be customized to fit any white space layout, supporting hybrid air-and-liquid cooling infrastructure. Properly designed containment systems can maintain air leakage below 3% at 10 Pa differential pressure, ensuring efficient airflow management. Doors and panels should allow safe access while minimizing bypass air, with sliding or full-height Lexan doors commonly used for visibility and serviceability.

Additional Design Notes

Rack alignment: Rows should be uniform in height to maximize containment efficiency. Door perforation: Highly perforated or super-vented doors (e.g., 83% vented) improve airflow and cooling performance. Raised floor: Acts as a cold air plenum, delivering air to the cold aisle while hot air is expelled into the hot aisle.

By adhering to these width, length, and containment guidelines, FTTH data centers can optimize thermal performance, maintain safe access for personnel, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
