Total length of Syrian optical cable

Syria's SilkLink fiber-optic network spans approximately 4,500 kilometers.

The Silk

Link project is the largest and most recent optical fiber initiative in Syria, designed to connect major cities such as Damascus, Aleppo, and Palmyra, while establishing regional switching centers and submarine cable landing stations in Tartus. This network aims to transform Syria into a digital corridor linking Europe and Asia, with additional regional connection points to Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Turkey. The project is being implemented by Saudi Arabia's stc Group in partnership with the Syrian Sovereign Fund, with a total investment of approximately $800 million.

Historically, Syria also had smaller optical cables, such as the ALETAR submarine cable, which has a total length of 787 kilometers and a design capacity of 5 Gbit/s. Other local extensions, like the 96-fiber cable from Jisr al-Shughur to Latakia, are part of ongoing network upgrades. Overall, the current total length of Syria's modern optical fiber infrastructure is dominated by the SilkLink network at 4,500 km, with additional smaller legacy and regional cables contributing to the national telecommunications grid.

This extensive network is expected to significantly improve internet quality, regional connectivity, and Syria's role as a data transit hub.
